Iwashi Coffee

Filled with the rich aroma of roasting beans, Iwashi Coffee serves carefully prepared pour-over coffee tailored across a spectrum from light to dark roasts. The lineup typically features around 4 varieties, allowing guests to explore the distinctive profiles of origin and roast level—from the crisp acidity and fruity nuances of a light-roast Rwanda to the fragrant depth and body of a dark-roast Colombia. Drinks can be ordered hot, iced, or as a café au lait, each brewed for a rounded, mellow finish without harsh edges.

Alongside the coffee, the counter offers an assortment of sweets sourced from local Kyoto confectioners, including baked treats, panna cotta, and cheesecake. The buttery crunch of the cookies and the gentle sweetness of the desserts make a natural pairing with the clean, clarified character of the pour-over brews.

Set inside a renovated traditional machiya townhouse, the space opens onto an earthen-floor doma at the entrance, fitted with the roaster and table seating, before giving way to a shoe-free tatami room in the back that looks out toward a garden. With soft background music setting an unhurried tone, it serves just as well for an easy pause inside as it does for a quick visit to pick up a takeaway cup or a bag of freshly roasted beans for home.
